Guerrilla Performance against the War in Times Square

Posted on July 29, 2025 by Zipper7777

AMY GOODMAN: “Our grief is not a cry for war! ” This was the statement that 70 artists and writers made in a guerrilla performance at Times Square earlier this week. We’re joined by Ashton Applewhite, a writer with the Artists Network of Refuse & Resist! Welcome to The War and Peace Report. ASHTON APPLEWHITE: Thank you. We assembled from all different directions just before 6:00 to minimize the possibility of police interference. We were wearing black with white dust masks. We swiftly picked up big placards that had the saying, “Our grief is not a cry for war! ” joined hands and formed long lines on either side of the little triangle at the heart of Times Square, just north of the recruiting station, and stood silently for an hour. We picked Times Square because it is the center of so much media activity in New York and because it’s completely covered in red, white and blue flags and bunting these days.

Anker’s USB-C 5-port 60W Wall Charger is a must-have whether at home or on-the-go. USB-C with Power Delivery is a great way to charge up your Nintendo Switch, battery packs and other products. Cocoon Grid-It has been around for a quite awhile now, but it’s still my go-to organizer away from home. The flexibility of the rubberized elastic is perfect for just about any cable or portable battery you can throw at it. There’s always the opportunity to capture and create content away from home. GoPro HERO6. Each camera offers flexibility for different scenarios, which is perfect for CES. Integrated stabilization and an iPhone mount make it easy to capture footage while moving and quickly transfer it to your device. HERO6 is the best camera that GoPro has ever made, and I highly recommend it for those fast shots that come up from time to time. Rounding out the list of accessories in my bag are V-Moda’s Crossfade Wireless Headphones, which are lightweight and unbelievably comfortable to wear. I also dig the metal accents. Logitech’s MX Anywhere 2S Mouse is one of the best in the business. You can read my full review here, but the highlights are definitely fully customizable buttons and impressive battery life. Incase just introduced its latest MacBook Sleeve in celebration of 20 years worth of business. This old classic still gets the job done with iconic styling and a nicely padded design. I first came across TM1985’s Roll Top Backpack when I first came to 9to5Toys. I’ve loved this bag ever since. It’s made by hand in Brooklyn and has beautiful stitching and color. If you’re someone who prefers dedicated storage, this backpack might not be for you. But, I know that I’m likely to be the only one with it at CES. A fair trade-off in my eyes.

We’ve spent countless hours finding the best luggage so that you can buy it with confidence, knowing you’re getting not just a good price but also a great product. In Consumer Reports’ tests, we put 18 hard-shell carry-on bags through 31 evaluations of use, durability, ergonomics, safety, and other aspects of ownership. Looking for more than luggage? Head over to CR’s Deals hub for more ways to save. Herschel makes one of our favorite weekenders, and the carry-on did very well in our tests as well. And the 21-inch Ash Rose bag is at stellar discount right now that probably won’t last long. The Heritage bag is a great choice if you’re looking for a hard-shell carry-on on the less expensive side that will stand out on the airport carousel. With the Herschel tag on the outside, it’ll be easier to recognize than other plain luggage. It also got a perfect score for construction quality and safety. It fared well in the impact resistance test as well. But it did get middling scores for ergonomics and carrying and pulling.

With the extensive damage to my hearing faculties, a good set of headphones is the equivalent of emerging from a Vault in Fallout – it’s a sharp and immediate change from the norm. I hear a constant whining (tinnitus) and a lot of bass-heavy songs have a muddy sound. A good set of headphones do a great job of cutting through this, allowing me to enjoy music (almost) like I used to. Conversely, a bad pair simply makes everything louder. As is often the case, quantity does not equal quality. To test out the M-100 I used a wide variety of music. Rush is my favorite band, so naturally I cranked up some of their greatest hits. It was, as I’d hoped, a trip down memory lane, allowing me to hear Neil’s incredible percussive voodoo crisp and clear. I’m also a fan of Jazz, so The Rippingtons were my next stop. In either case, whether I was checking out their earlier tracks, their synth-dominated middle period, or their guitar-heavy modern tracks, they all came through clear as a bell and had my head nodding.
